Tena Courcoulas

COURCOULAS: Age 87, of Fort Myers Beach, Florida, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Tena Courcoulas: passed away peacefully on November 25, 2012 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law. She was born Tena Leonidas on April 28, 1925 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, the daughter of Greek immigrants who earned an undergraduate and an advanced degree in Nutrition Science from the University of Manitoba. She later moved to Toronto where she led the hospital nutrition service at Toronto General Hospital. Tena devoted the majority of her life to raising two daughters with her husband John. She traveled extensively and enthusiastically, and enjoyed reading, politics and the culinary arts. She was always sought out by countless friends and extended family members for her special skills as a listener and confidante. Perhaps her greatest legacy is the empathy that she possessed. Her understanding and nurturing of the human spirit was her gift to all those who happened to know her. Loving and devoted mother of Anita (Ira Gumberg) and Elly (Michael Giattino); sister of Katherine Saunders, Paul and George Leonidas (both brothers deceased); beloved and proud grandmother of Jill, Amanda, Tessa and Stanley. Tena died as she lived, peacefully and with grace, surrounded by those she loved. She lived 87 unforgettable years and will never really leave us. Services were held at Rodef Shalom Temple. Interment Homewood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice. Arrangements entrusted to Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc. www.schugar.com
