Squirrel Hill Project starts
Barbara Burstin speaks to a crowd of 100 about the history of the migration and settlement of the Jewish community in Pittsburgh, Sunday, Oct. 14, at the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill. Burstin related street names, local histories and neighborhood tones to the settlement of the Jewish people in Pittsburgh throughout the city’s history. Her talk was the first in a series of lectures and programs about Jewish life in Pittsburgh, called the Squirrel Hill Project, which will go on through the 2012-13 academic year. The Jewish Studies Program at the University of Pittsburgh and the Agency for Jewish Learning are sponsoring the project.
