Six Squirrel Hill block parties for National Night Out

A half a dozen Squirrel Hill households will mark the 28th annual National Night Out with block parties Tuesday, Aug. 2.

The gatherings are an opportunity for neighbors to meet, socialize and communicate about problems related to safety, crime and neighborhood improvement. Party-to-party visits are expected from representatives of the police and fire departments and elected officials who want to help build a stronger, safer community.

The Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition urges everyone to join in local Night Out 2011 activities to help heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, to increase participation in local anti-crime programs, and to strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Call the Squirrel Hill Urban Coalition at (412) 422-7666 or Bicky Goldszer at (412) 521 2542, or email info@shuc.org for more information and to find a party near you.

National Night Out 2010 involved more than 37 million people in 15,110 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide.
