Henry Kaufmann Family Recreation Park, located at 261 Rosecrest Drive in Monroeville, is recognizing the unique needs of the older adults in the community. By partnering with the nationally recognized Healthways SilverSneakers® Fitness Program, the Henry Kaufmann Family Recreation Park is able to offer older adults a way to increase their levels of physical activity while motivating them to remain active. SilverSneakers is the nation’s leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults and is available at no additional cost (beyond any monthly premium) to eligible Medicare health plan and group retiree members. Eligible members must complete their initial enrollment for this site at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh in Squirrel Hill – located at 5738 Forbes Ave. or the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh in the South Hills, 345 Kane Blvd, PA 15243. The Henry Kaufmann Family Recreation Park offers an Olympic-size pool, a baby pool, shaded poolside area, tennis, basketball and volleyball courts, as well as fitness and hiking trails. The Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill also offers other amenities such as fitness equipment, treadmills and free weights, and the signature SilverSneakers Fitness Program classes, designed specifically for older adults and taught by certified instructors. A designated staff member will assist members along the way.
