Shirley Stark
STARK: Shirley Stark of Schenley Park, on Monday, May 4, 2015; Beloved wife of Sidney Stark Jr. Devoted mother of Seth (Sharon) and Sidney Stark III. Grandmother of Christine Stark (Spyke Alexander). Great-grandmother of Jacqueline Stark. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. She graduated at the age of 17 from the University of Chicago, and obtained her master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh two years later. She was an art historian, teacher, travel bookstore owner and had a lifelong passion for the arts. Mrs. Stark chaired the Art Department at Chatham College, and taught architectural history at Carnegie-Mellon University. Her sharp mind, glorious wit, and sparkling personality endeared her to her family, friends and students. An inveterate traveler, she had been to five continents and seen the world’s greatest works of art whose beauty and splendor were such a big part of her life. She was an avid reader, opera buff and Shakespearophile. Services were held at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc. Interment private.
