S. Sidney Brenner

BRENNER: Of Boynton Beach, Fla., formerly of Monroeville, on Sunday, January 11, 2015, S. Sidney; surrounded by his loving family. Sid was a research scientist for many years at the United States Steel Research Laboratory and later was a professor of materials science at the University of Pittsburgh. He was the son of Elisabeth and Adolph Brenner, born on February 6, 1927 in Nuremberg, Germany and immigrated to the United States in 1941. Avid tennis player and master bridge player, Sid loved hiking, classical music, and traveling the world. He was the beloved husband of Ruth Hurwitz Brenner and the late Suzanne Brenner; brother of Hanne Holsten and the late Elsie Orbach; loving father of Judi (Richard) Wieder, Cindy (Keith) Miller and Ellen (Bruce) Mottel; adoring Saba of Ben, Michael, Stephanie, Alyson, Brianna and Madeleine; also survived by stepdaughters, Lane (Steven) Glisson and Barbara Grant and many nieces, nephews and stepgrandchildren. Services were held at Temple David. Interment Temple Sinai Memorial Park.
