Rosalind "Roz" Kharfen Alpert

ALPERT: On Tuesday, September 8, 2015, Rosalind “Roz” Kharfen Alpert, age 98, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 8, 2015.  Her childhood was spent in Pittsburgh and Keene, N.H., where she graduated from Keene High School. “Pert, petite and pretty” Rosalind spent her early years in broadcasting in Rochester, N.Y. as one of the first female radio talk show hosts as Roz Allyn on “To the Ladies.”  When she moved back to Pittsburgh she commentated on KQV radio as Nancy Dixon across from Bill Burns.  Roz will forever be remembered for her involvement acting in plays at the Jewish Community Center, singing in the Rodef Shalom Congregation Intergenerational Chorus and various local theatrical parts.  Roz did public relations work for Easter Seals as well as working as a real estate agent for the Cooper Agency and Prudential Realty Company. Most of all she was loved for her adorable sense of humor.  Rosalind was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Zola S. Alpert; loving mother of Jan (Howard) Engelberg and Molly (Peter) Blasier; sister of Priscilla Zivels and Henry Kharfen; special sister and friend of the late Mildred K. Lehman; devoted and loving grandmother to Zoe (Zach) Pritchett, Matthew Engelberg, Louisa and Gavin Blasier; favored stepgrandmother to Dawn (Robert) Tennenbaum and Scott (Samantha) Engelberg; adoring great-grandma of Sloane and Dylan Pritchett. Loving stepgreat-grandma of Spencer, Lance and Brent Tennenbaum.  Services were held at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc.
