Rabbi Jacob honored

Rabbi Walter Jacob will be honored by the City of Springfield, Mo., Thursday, Oct. 28.
The Springfield Public Schools is initiating the program, which calls attention to some outstanding individuals who grew up there.
Among the honorees are:
• John Ashcroft, U.S. attorney general under President George W. Bush and a former U.S. senator and governor of Missouri; and
• Larry D. Young, president and CEO of Dr. Pepper Snapple.
Jacob, the longtime senior rabbi of Rodef Shalom Congregation and its rabbi emeritus, also is the president and a founder of the Abraham Geiger College in Potsdam, Germany. In 2006, Jacob, as president of the school, made history by ordaining the first three rabbis in Germany since the Holocaust.
Jacob also is president of the Freehof Institute of Progressive Jewish Law and an author, editor or translator of 39 books.
