New details of Oct. 27 commemoration

Times have now been set for activities that will take place on the one-year commemoration of the Oct. 27 massacre at the Tree of Life building. Community service projects will be held throughout the city beginning at 11 a.m. and continue until 1 p.m. Torah study at Rodef Shalom Congregation will take place from 2-3:45 p.m. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. for the memorial service at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall in Oakland at 5 p.m. The 10.27 Healing Partnership will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Registration will be required for both the community service events and Torah study.

Preregistration will not be required for the ceremony at Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall. The hall seats 2,300 and anyone unable to sit in the auditorium will be able to overflow into the hallway where systems are being developed to livestream the ceremony.

Brad Orsini, community security director at Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, is working closely with the city developing and implementing a security plan for the day. That security will involve both uniformed and undercover police.

A website has been created specifically for the remembrance: pittsburghoct27.org. PJC
