Naveh to leave Holocaust Center in December

Edie Naveh, who has served as director of the Holocaust Center of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh since 2005, will leave in December.

Naveh, who directed the Holocaust Center during the 1980s, returned to the job after serving as the Federation’s director of community and public affairs for nearly 10 years.

During her tenure at the Center, Naveh launched a successful membership campaign to strengthen its endowment and a strategic planning process to establish a roadmap for its future.

Also interested in bringing the lessons of the Holocaust to the broader Pittsburgh community, Naveh collaborated with several organizations, including WQED Multi-Media, to produce the award-winning documentary “From Pittsburgh to Poland;” with the Andy Warhol Museum to host the massive exhibition, “Deadly Medicine;” and with the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre to present “Light: the Holocaust and Humanity Project.”

“This has been the most rewarding five years of my professional life,” Naveh said in a prepared statement. “I believed it was time to move on to seek new challenges as I accomplished many of the goals I established for myself at the Center.”

Jeff Finkelstein, president and CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh said in a statement that Naveh “has truly made a difference in the community as a member of the Federation’s staff. On behalf of all of us who have worked closely with her during her many years of community service, I know we will miss her.”

Naveh began her Federation career in 1984 as a community relations and campaign associate. Prior to her employment at the Federation she served as assistant director of B’nai B’rith Hillel at the University of Pittsburgh.

She is a past recipient of the Doris and Leonard H. Rudolph Jewish Communal Professional Award, the highest award presented annually to a Jewish communal professional in Pittsburgh.
