Nancy Polinsky Johnson new owner of SHADY AVE magazine
Nancy Polinsky Johnson’s workload may be heavier, but she is clearly delighted.
Johnson, who has been editor of the quarterly magazine SHADY AVE for six years, is now publisher and editor, having purchased the “upscale lifestyle magazine” from Catherine Orcutt. Orcutt, who founded the magazine in 1996, is relocating to Toronto with her husband, who has taken a position there.
A self-described community organizer at heart, Johnson is excited about expanding her ability “to create a sense of community beyond my block.”
SHADY AVE gives Johnson that depth, especially since it circulates among 40,000 readers in the East End, Fox Chapel/O’Hara Township area and Oakmont.
“I totally love being plugged into the part of the community I live in,” Johnson said. And the more she learns about it, the more excited she gets.
Johnson spent 20 years in television, working as a writer, producer, reporter and news anchor in several cities, relocating to Pittsburgh in 1985 — married to WPXI-TV news anchor David
Johnson.
After a brief stint in area television stations, Johnson joined WQED-TV, and continues to co-host cooking programs and participates in membership drive special events.
Johnson, her husband, and sons Michael and Eric are in the SHADY AVE demographic, in one of the magazine’s primary markets — Squirrel Hill. For Johnson, the meshing of work and community life doesn’t get better than that.
