RESNICK: Mildred Resnick; A wise, patient and loving woman and respected sociologist passed away at home on Friday, March 1, 2013 at 89 years of age. Beloved wife of 67 years, Robert Resnick. Beloved mother of Abby (Roger Day) Resnick of Pittsburgh, PA, Regina Resnick of New York City and the late Trudy Resnick. Grandmother of Benjamin Resnick-Day of Brooklyn, NY, Nathan Resnick-Day of Pittsburgh, PA and Eva Resnick-Day of Pittsburgh, PA. Mildred is also survived by many loving relatives and friends. Mildred was born in Romania, the daughter of Nathan and Dora Selman Saltzman. Her family emigrated from Russia to Canada and then to the USA. Mildred worked in Cleveland, OH and attended college briefly prior to marrying her husband. Mildred went back to college and graduate school as an “older” student and became a respected sociologist. Her brilliant insightfulness was recognized by her graduation results (1st in nation) and her becoming a counselor for New York State agencies and citizens. Mildred volunteered extensively. She was President of the League of Woman Voters of Rensselaer County, New York, was on the board of Planned Parenthood in upstate New York and also taught reading (“literacy volunteers”) at the YWCA of Troy, NY, and English as a Second Language (ESL) for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute international students. Mildred’s colleagues at work and in her many volunteer organizations found her persuasive because she listened well, was open to different viewpoints, yet also stood her ground for her fundamental beliefs. Her wonderful gifts of empathy, common sense and human generosity helped people of all shapes, sizes, colors and backgrounds.
