Chabad Jewish Center of Monroeville will hold a free community lecture by Dr. Richard Myerowitz on Jewish genetics and addressing “Are Jews a race?” on Thursday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. at 2715 Mosside Blvd.

The talk will address whether modern genetics confirms differences between populations of Jews e.g., Ashkenazim and Sephardim; and is there a genetic test that will confirm whether you are or are not a Kohain. The talk will also include a review of Jewish genetic diseases. Light refreshments will be served.

Ivan Frank will be signing and selling his new book, “A Cup of Coffee and Bagel: Sharing Life Stories,” on Sunday, June 5 from 10 a.m. to noon at Christine Frechard Art Gallery, 5871 Forbes Ave. in Squirrel Hill where coffee will be served and on Saturday, June 18 at 10 a.m. to noon at Chocolate Moose, 5830 Forbes Ave.

Frank’s book describes relationships that developed over a period of time between the author and individuals whose daily routines are to drink coffee at the same location each morning. The coffee shop is a community where a variety of people and cultures come together.

The Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh invites the community to a free presentation by Rabbi Walter Homolka of Germany on the resurgence of Jewish religious life in Germany after the Holocaust on Tuesday, June 7 at 7 p.m. at 826 Hazelwood Ave.

Homolka is rector (dean) of the Abraham Geiger College for the training of Reform and Conservative rabbis. Rabbi Walter Jacob of Rodef Shalom Congregation founded Abraham Geiger College in 1999,  the first liberal rabbinic seminary established in continental Europe after the Holocaust.

Homolka is also executive director of the Zacharias Frankel College and a professor of Jewish studies at Potsdam University in Germany.

NA’AMAT USA, Pittsburgh Council will hold Bagels and Books on Wednesday, June 8 at 10 a.m. at the Labor Zionist Educational Center, 6328 Forbes Ave. Helen Faye Rosenblum will give the book review; there is a light breakfast.

Beth El Congregation invites the community for a free talk led by Rabbi Danny Schiff on Wednesday, June 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Beth El Congregation of the South Hills at 1900 Cochran Road.

Schiff, the Foundation Scholar at the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh, will discuss “Addiction and Recovery from a Jewish Perspective.”
