The Zionist Organization of America – Pittsburgh District is hosting a program entitled “Partitioning Palestine: The Historical Background of the Two State Idea,” presented by Alexander Orbach on Tuesday, July 21 at 7 p.m. at 6507 Wilkins Ave. in Suite 107.
Orbach is on the core faculty of the University of Pittsburgh’s European Studies Center and the Center for Russian and East European Studies of the University Center for International Studies. Formerly, he was the longtime director of Pitt’s Jewish Studies Program and is currently serving a secondary appointment to Pitt’s Department of History. He received his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin in 1975.

This year’s communitywide Tisha B’Av observance will be held at Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha on Saturday, July 25 at 10 p.m. The evening will begin with a healing service, “Jerusalem Oh I can recall.” The reading of Eicha will start at 10:30 p.m. The Tisha B’Av observance is sponsored by Adat Shalom, Beth El Congregation, Congregation Beth Shalom, Dor Hadash, New Light Congregation, Rodef Shalom, Temple Sinai, Tree of Life*Or L’Simcha, Classroom Without Borders, Community Day School and the Jewish Community Center of Greater Pittsburgh.
