JFILM will present Aviva Kempner’s “Rosenwald,” the story of Julius Rosenwald, a Jewish philanthropist who joined forces with African-American communities during the Jim Crow South to build more than 5,300 schools during the early part of the 20th century. Inspired by the Jewish ideals of tzedakah (charity) and tikkun olam (repairing the world) and concern over racial inequality in America, Rosenwald used his wealth to become one of America’s most effective philanthropists.

The film will be shown on Thursday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 6 at 3 p.m. at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater at 5941 Penn Ave.

Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door ($5/$6 for students).

Temple Sinai invites all members of the community to join in a Mostly Musical Sensory Sensitive Shabbat service featuring the Temple Sinai Band and guest speaker Shelly Christensen on Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m. Features of this service will include a sign language interpreter, Visual Tefillah, large-print prayer books, an available quiet service for those with noise sensitivity and a guest sermon by Christensen, a disabilities and inclusion expert and author of the “Jewish Community Guide to Inclusion of People with Disabilities.”
