Maurice (Maishe) Brown
BROWN: On Thursday, April 26, 2012, Maurice (Maishe); formerly of Pittsburgh, and a resident of Pompano Beach, Florida for the last 25 years, died on 26 April 2012 at the wonderful age of 97. He was a beloved husband of 37 years to Dorothy Mervis Brown, and was predeceased by Florence Ratowsky Brown, his loving first wife of 31 years. His devoted children include his daughters Alexis Ratowsky Brown of Miami Beach, Florida; Judith Brown (John) Levy of Richmond,Virginia; and his son, Marshall Alan Brown of Washington D.C. Lovingly known as “Pop Pop” to his six grandchildren: Shoshanah (Katherine) Brown, Jonah (fiancée Jennifer) Geller, Alexandra (Leo) Falek, Abram (Jennifer) Falek, Shana (Sandler) Passman, and Bram Levy, Morry was also blessed with seven great grandchildren; Ari, Ezra, Lea, Zev, Max, Rowan and Elliot. He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces and their families. Born in 1914, Morry was the last surviving sibling of nine children from the North Side of Pittsburgh, born to Cecelia and Jacob Brown. Often known as “Brownie,” Morry will always be remembered for his gentle soul, warm smile, wonderful sense of humor, and ever-present, positive attitude about everything and everyone he met. He had been a long-time business owner in Squirrel Hill and was often thought of as “the Mayor of Forward Avenue.” Morry was an avid bowler, golfer and hospital volunteer throughout most of his life. He always appreciated a life full of family, good friends, music and dance. Morry served his country proudly during WWII. He was a life long Mason and charter member/founder of Beth El Congregation of the South Hills. Graveside Services and Interment were held at Beth Shalom Cemetery.
