Rabbi Riskin: a Wexner star
The first Pittsburgh Wexner Heritage Group (“Leaders with a commitment to the ‘Jewish way’ are Wexner’s ‘tremendous gift,’”June 11) had the privilege of spending two weeks in Israel in June 1988 with Rabbi Riskin. His erudition, scholarship and ability to teach and engage us were remarkable. Efrat was quite new then. It was designed to allow shomer Shabbos residents to observe Shabbat without having to encounter a car. Yet, others in the community could ride unhindered. Return trips to Efrat have shown how the community has grown. Rabbi Riskin’s relations with the surrounding Arab communities illuminate how to be a light unto the nations.
