A project to preserve

At the same time that Temple Hadar Israel is planning for its future (“Temple Hadar Israel sells but is staying put,” June 18), the congregation has been working with the Small Town Jewish History Project, an initiative of the Rauh Jewish Archives at the Heinz History Center, to document the history of New Castle’s Jewish community.  The congregation has donated its records to be preserved in the archives.  The project has been collecting oral histories from Temple members, some of whom have donated family and business papers and photographs as well.

The Small Town Jewish History Project has also been working with other Western Pennsylvania congregations and with individuals who lived in the regional small towns to preserve their histories.

ISIS is no varsity

The Chronicle’s June 18 editorial cartoon has President Obama promoting ISIS to varsity status. The rule book to attain varsity status indicates a team must have uniforms, a navy and an air force.
