Hadassah open for business
The Hadassah office, located at 1824 Murray Ave. in the heart of Squirrel Hill, is and has always been open.
To paraphrase Mark Twain, the report of our demise was greatly exaggerated. Staff layoffs were the result of National and local restructuring. We are grateful to the former staff of the Pittsburgh office, which were hired and paid for by National Hadassah, for their years of dedicated service. Hadassah Greater Pittsburgh Chapter is truly grateful for their help and professionalism during this difficult transition. We are also deeply thankful to the many volunteers who have stepped forward to help us out during the interim period and who are donating to Hadassah’s “100 Days, 100,000 Donors” campaign.
While Hadassah, along with so many other non-profit institutions, has suffered some setbacks, we are more focused than ever on our core mission, outreach to our volunteers, and fundraising for our projects in Israel. We are moving forward. We have hired Ilene Riffle, a full-time administrative assistant and are continuing our search to hire a development/executive director to help run the Pittsburgh office.
On April 30, we are collaborating with the Hillman Cancer Center to offer a community-wide education program on the BRCA genes. Our Chapter Closing Meeting will be held on May 20, and we will honor all of the incredible volunteers and donors who have stepped up during this challenging year.
Times are tough, but Hadassah is tougher. I personally invite readers of The Jewish Chronicle to visit our office for a friendly “hello” and a kosher treat.
