With Trump, everything to lose

It is with sadness and disappointment that I read The Chronicle’s “Why do Florida’s Orthodox Jews support Trump? Because they fear Clinton,” which notes that these individuals favor Trump three-to-one over Hillary Clinton.

If I were to list the behavior and statements of Trump that disqualify him from service for any elective office, they could fill the entire edition of the newspaper, so I will focus on what he means to our community.

Donald Trump would impose a religious test, and quite likely an ideological one, before allowing entry to this country. He would bar Muslims from coming here. He falsely and dangerously seems to believe that all of Islam is at war with us. He has expressed agreement with the decision to intern in camps all Japanese-Americans during World War II, something that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, were he alive today, would surely regard as an embarrassment and a grave error for which he would apologize.

My paternal grandparents were murdered by the Nazis. I do not know if there will be another Holocaust and pray that there will not, but I see history repeating itself in the elevation of the candidate of stereotyping, hatred, ignorance and intolerance.

Trump directed a query to African-Americans: “What do you have to lose [by voting for me]?” Hillary Clinton’s response said it all: “Everything!”
