Stirs Up Bad Memories
I left Pittsburgh in 1981, but I never stopped my subscription to The Chronicle. The June 2 story “Catholic students learn that hate can hurt” brought back terrible memories for me, who as a child while walking to the Rogers School was called “dirty Jew” by the students who were walking to a Catholic school. Unfortunately, some things never change, and I am 77. My question is: Why were the parents of these girls never mentioned? They are probably the grandchildren of the children I was tormented by. Hate is taught and tolerated in the home. I was 8 years old when it started, and I had never told them I was Jewish. Profiling dark curly hair and skin was their M.O. I close with a heavy heart.
