Letter to the editor April 16
Music, but not to Pittsburgh’s ears
Highly respected musician Idan Raichel — known as Israel’s answer to Peter Gabriel for his cross-cultural collaborations and global outlook — will be touring the East Coast this month with his group, the Idan Raichel Project. Some venues are as close as Baltimore, Fairfax, Va., Washington, D.C., and Cleveland. So it’s a shame that no Jewish institutions locally thought it might be a good idea to bring him to Pittsburgh.
For those who are tempted to go to Cleveland, his concert will be at Park Synagogue on April 23, and more information is available at idanraichelproject.com. Since Raichel’s music appeals to wide audiences, it would be great if, in the future, Jewish cultural programmers would think a bit more progressively. I’m not holding my breath, however.
