GLICKSTEIN: On Wednesday, June 24, 2015, Joan K. Glickstein, age 81, of Pleasant Hills, Pa., passed due to complications of lung cancer. Beloved wife of 58 years of Stanley, loving mother of Steven Glickstein (wife Sherri), Barbara Sacher (husband Seth), Karen Edeson (husband Fred) and Cathy Glickstein. She was the sister of Richard Katz; also survived by six grandchildren, Elana, Jarred, Sara, Max, Ethan and Jonah. The burial service was held in Greenwich, Conn. Joan received her bachelor’s of science degree from Brooklyn College, master’s degree from the Pennsylvania State University and her doctorate from the University of Pittsburgh.  She was a strong advocate for the aging community, having served as a Pennsylvania delegate to the White House Conference on Aging. She continued her work advocating for the elderly through her participation in professional organizations including the American Speech Language Hearing Association, Gerontology Society of America and Southwestern Pennsylvania Partnership for Aging.  She was honored and received the Charles W. Pruitt Jr. Award of Excellence for her outstanding contributions to the field of aging. She was also an author and editor of several publications in the health care community. In addition, she volunteered her time as a docent at the Senator John Heinz History Center and to her local synagogue, Beth Israel Center. Family suggests donations in Joan’s memory be made to the Alzheimer’s Association: Greater Pennsylvania Chapter 1100 Liberty Ave., E-201 Pittsburgh, PA 15222.
