Joan F. Friedman
FRIEDMAN: Joan F. Friedman, age 95, of Pittsburgh, died Wednesday, June 29, 2016. Born in Reigate, England, Joan served six years in the WAAF division of Britain’s Royal Air Force as a plotter of enemy planes coming in over England. She met her future husband, Frankie, of the USAAF, at a dance in Watford, England, moved to Pittsburgh with him and raised their family there. Loving wife “Ducks” for 71 years of Frank Friedman. Beloved mother of Laura (Robert) Schneider, Judith Friedman (Steve Steurer), Abbie (Steve) Greenberg, Joel Friedman, and the late Rebecca Gudelsky. Loving grandma of Brian Schneider, Aliza Steurer (Steve DiDomenico), Samara (David) Wheaton, Erin (Edward) Espinal, Kendra Greenberg (fiancé Nick Caito), Stephen Steurer, and Daniel (Abbey) Gudelsky. Great-grandma of Eddie, Stella, Rocco and Theo. Sister of Rosemary Crooks, Perth, Australia. Joan loved many things, but her true passions were reading, learning and teaching, particularly Shakespeare, history and poetry. We will miss her laughter, British sense of humor, tunes sung in perfect pitch, and her unconditional love for us all. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Donations may be made to the Squirrel Hill Health Center, Seven Oaks Hospice, or a charity of one’s choice.
