Jerome Balbot
BALBOT: Jerome Balbot, age 87, formerly of Pittsburgh, passed away quietly in Aventura, Fla., on February 24, 2016. Son of the late Celia Seiner Balbot and Max Balbot, he was born in Pittsburgh on November 4, 1928, and lived most of his life here. He graduated from Taylor Allderdice High School and from the University of Pittsburgh with a degree in business. During the Korean War, Jerome served in the Army as a lieutenant. Following his honorable discharge, he joined his family in their successful retail business, The Belle Shoppe, in Braddock, Pa., at a time when Braddock was a vibrant business community, and he remained an active member of the Braddock Rotary for more than 35 years. He also owned women’s and children’s retail businesses in Squirrel Hill, West Mifflin and the Oakland area of Pittsburgh. In addition to retail, he taught yoga for decades, both at the Jewish Community Center and at numerous senior citizen facilities throughout the area. He will be remembered lovingly by family and friends as adventurous and gregarious, always generous of his time in assisting those who might be in need of help. Jerome is survived by his adoring son Bernard Lee Balbot, a devoted sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Leroy Raffel of Aventura and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Diane Jean (Dr. Milton) Cooper. Graveside services and interment were held at Beth Shalom Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Braddock Rotary, the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, or Riverview Towers. Arrangements entrusted to Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc, family owned and operated.
