Irene Miller Levkoy
LEVKOY, IRENE MILLER: 87, OF Squirrel Hill, peacefully passed away on March 4, 2011. Born in New Kensington, PA on November 7, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Irving and Rose Miller. Irene graduated from New Kensington High School having served as editor of the school newspaper. Irene spent her college years at Ohio University, graduating with a degree in journalism in 1945. As a busy, working reporter, Irene wrote news and feature stories for the Pittsburgh Sun Telegraph, on staff from 1945 until 1948 when she married. Returning from the war, Julius Ronald LevKoy met and became engaged to Irene. They married at the William Penn Hotel in 1948. The following year their beloved son, Larry Lee LevKoy was born. Two more children followed, Richard Miller LevKoy and Diane LevKoy Morgan. Irene was an active member of Tree of Life Synagogue and served as president of Tree of Life Sisterhood. Devoted to family, Irene was a doting grandmother to Eric and Molly Morgan, son and daughter of Diane and her husband, Greg Morgan, and to Abraham and Ellen LevKoy, son and daughter of Richard and Barbara Runkle LevKoy. She is also survived by her siblings, Robert Miller, Sally Roberts and Barbara Trellis. Irene’s last residence was Charles Morris Nursing home. She was blessed to have the devoted companionship of her loving friend, Vanessa Culbreth. Services were held at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc. Interment Beth Jacob Cemetery, New Kensington, PA.
