Gordon Phillips

PHILLIPS: On Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, Gordon Phillips, beloved husband of Claralyn Phillips and loving father of Mary (Fred) Wagner and Tracy (Jon) Bienen and devoted stepfather of Candace Goldberg and Meredith (Josh) Friedman; proud grandfather of David and Sarah Wagner, Owen Bienen, Solomon, Orli and the late Jonah Friedman; and brother of Donald (Janice) Phillips. Mr. Phillips was a history buff, avid reader, golfer and lover of symphonic music. Until he was in his sixties, he was also a helicopter skier. Born in Syracuse, NY, he received his Bachelors and Master’s degree from Syracuse University. He remained interested in history and politics all his life. He especially enjoyed working a 12-hour day as an election-day poll worker. He was a past president of the school boards of New York State, Onondaga County, Fayetteville-Manlius, and of the Syracuse Chapter of the American Jewish Committee. He served on the boards of Temple Society of Concord, Chamber of Commerce and YMCA. Mr. Phillips was Executive Vice President of Onondaga Supply Company and President and Chairman of the Board of Onondaga-Drennan Industrial Supply Company. After moving to Pittsburgh, PA in 1986, he was vice president of the J.A. Williams Company, the Harris Industrial Pump & Supply Company, and the Jenny Division of Homestead Industries. For the past decade, he was a certified long-term care insurance specialist representing multiple carriers through Acsia Long Term Care, LTC Global, and as a partner with LTC Financial Partners LLC. Last year, he and his wife moved to Chapel Hill, NC, where he enjoyed the lifestyle and the Carolina blue skies. He died on February 5, 2012 of pancreatic cancer.
