Florence "Babe" Bernstein
Florence “Babe” Bernstein, 97, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pa. died peacefully on June 18, 2011 at her home in West Palm Beach, Fla. She was the loving wife of the late Sam Bernstein for 64 years until his passing in 1999. Mrs. Bernstein was born March10, 1914 in Pittsburgh, Pa to Harry and Molly Lapin. Babe, as her friends and family fondly called her is survived by her sister, Ruth Paransky and two children, Rita (Burt) Tansky and Arnold (Joann) Bernstein. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Michael Tansky, Hyla Weiss, Jodi Goff, Kristen Canalia, Mark Bernstein, Josh Bernstein and Sarah Bernstein, and 9 great grandchildren: Sascha Tansky, Emily and Coby Weiss, David Muncie, Hannah Goff, Max and Sam Bernstein and Peter and Giovanni Canalia. Babe worked along side her husband for many years in their fish and poultry market. At the age of 50, she decided to go back to school to attend Duquesne University and received her teaching degree in Special Education. She worked in the public schools in Pittsburgh until she retired in 1974 and moved with her husband, Sam to West Palm Beach, Fla. Upon moving to West Palm Beach, she became very involved in the Century Village community and volunteered for numerous charities. Her wonderful spirit and energy will be missed by her devoted family and friends. Graveside Services were held on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the Adath Jeshurun Cemetary.
