Music at Rodef Shalom will present mezzo-soprano Kara Cornell

On Monday November 19 at 8:00 pm, Music at Rodef Shalom will present mezzo-soprano Kara Cornell, for its opening free concert of the season. Abigail Eagleson will be the collaborative pianist. One of Pittsburgh’s most thrilling and innovative singers, Kara Cornell will present Folk Songs of the celebrated American composer Jake Heggie, and a group of songs by Clara Schumann, one of the most important women musicians in history, who was the wife of composer Robert Schumann. The program also features favorite opera arias from Carmen and the Barber of Seville as well as songs and arias by Leonard Bernstein celebrating the Centennial year of his birth.
Pittsburgh resident Kara Cornell, is a versatile performer who is known as “a singer who can balance impeccable production and phrasing with enthusiastic and colorful dramatics.” Kara Cornell performs frequently in leading roles with Resonance Works in Pittsburgh. Nationally, Kara has recently performed leading operatic and musical theater roles with St. Petersburg Opera (FL) Opera, Saratoga, Center for Contemporary Opera, Stony Brook Opera, Long Island Opera, and many more.

Kara’s clear English diction, soulful interpretations, and intuitive rhythmic skills are making her known as a singer who excels in the Contemporary and American music genre. Kara enjoys collaborating with composers and is premiering pieces in American Art Song themed recitals nationally in a tour called “Creative Collaborations”.
The concert is free and open to the public. There will be a reception to meet the artists after the concert. There is ample free parking.
