Charlene “Kandy” Ehrenwerth Memorial Lecture

May 13, 2019 , 7:00 pm

The Zionist Organization of America: Pittsburgh will hold the Charlene “Kandy” Ehrenwerth Memorial Lecture on Monday, May 13, 2019. Kandy was a prominent Pittsburgh trial lawyer known for her aggressive protection of human and civil rights. Kandy, a long-time ZOA member, was an active leader in the Jewish and broader civic communities. She was tragically killed in an automobile accident in 1992.

The lecture will be in the Eisner Commons at Congregation Beth Shalom, 5915 Beacon Street, and will begin at 7 PM. The Ehrenwerth Lecture is hosted by ZOA through an endowment set up by her loving family to perpetuate her memory. There is no charge to attend, but reservations are requested and can be made at pittsburgh@zoa.org or 412-665-4630.

Jonathan Weinkle, MD is the author of the book Healing People, Not Patients: Creating Authentic Relationships in Modern Healthcare (in which he takes the core Jewish ideal that humans are created in G-d’s image and maps out the nuts and bolts of a healing relationship) and guest speaker. His focus will be from where does the ideal of Jewish healing emanate, and what does it look like in practice? How can it be put to work even in our fragmented, dehumanizing medical system of today? Could conducting our healing encounters this way change how we relate to others in the rest of our daily lives?
