Elizabeth Brown
BROWN: On Tuesday, December 20, 2016, Elizabeth Brown. Beloved wife of the late Paul Brown; loving mother of Peter Joseph (Stephanie) Brown; daughter of the late Josef and Szerena Klein; sister of the late Ilonka; Cherished grandmother of Alison (Josh) Karabin, David (Meredith) Brown, and Rachel (Bryan) Clark; Proud great-grandmother Oma of Zachary, Owen, Oliver, Lucy and Quinn. Born in Ostoros, Hungary, in 1918, Elizabeth was a survivor of the Holocaust. After the war, she returned to Hungary where she married her husband, Paul, and gave birth to their son, Peter Joseph. They went to France and waited for two years to receive immigration papers to the U.S. Only after Elizabeth wrote to President Truman directly did the family’s papers arrive. Elizabeth was a much-loved crossing guard throughout Squirrel Hill (at the corners of Wightman and Forbes; at Colfax School; and at St. Philomena’s on Beechwood Boulevard); and in Point Breeze (at Sterrett School). Graveside services and interment were held at Beth Shalom Cemetery, Shaler Township.
