Eight over 80 2012 honorees to be feted at Beth Shalom
An evening of old-fashioned Hollywood glamour is in store for eight local honorees, all over the age of 80, and those assembled to pay them tribute.
Sarita Eisner, Bernard Latterman, Susie Wolf, Elva Perrin, Morton Rubin, Beverly Mermelstein, Marcia Stewart, and Florence Leebov are the “Eight Over 80” who will walk the red carpet for the 2012 event Thursday, June 7, at Congregation Beth Shalom.
The evening is sponsored by the Jewish Association on Aging.
“All are being honored because of their commitment to the community, and to all the various agencies in the community,” said Mitchell Pakler, who, along with his wife, Rae-Gayle Pakler, is co-chairing the event.
“This year, we decided to glam it up a bit,” he said, noting that the 2012 affair is dubbed “The Golden Age of Hollywood,” and will feature Broadway performer Lenora Nemetz, and the entire cast of Jewish Theater of Pittsburgh’s “That’s Life,” which will open Tuesday, June 12, at Rodef Shalom Congregation. Local performer Howard Elson will emcee the event, and Craig Zinger will be featured on piano. Cyril Wecht, who was honored in 2011 as one of the Eight over 80, will also be a featured speaker.
“It’s going to be a great event,” Pakler said, with many surprise touches evoking Hollywood’s golden age. More than 300 people have already registered to attend.
