HARR, EDWIN: The quintessential nice guy passed away on Monday, March 9, 2015, a month before his 92nd birthday. Beloved husband of the late Beatrice Lave Harr. Beloved father of Heather (Alan Gintzler) Harr. Beloved grandfather of Guthrie Gintzler. Preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters. Brother-in-law of Elizabeth Harr. Beloved uncle of Stephen Harr, Ellen Klein, Sanford Harr, Freddi Gerard, Evelyn Taksel, Morley Hoffman, Sam White and the late Burgess Harr and the late Julian Harr. Also survived by great-nieces and nephews and their children. Mr. Harr was a favorite Social Studies teacher at Allderdice High School and was Department Chairman of Social Studies at Peabody High School. He also taught religious school at Rodef Shalom. Ed wrote curriculum for the Pittsburgh Public Schools’ first Sociology and Psychology courses. He also was the co-author of a published series on S.E. Asia. He served in the Air Force in WWII on Okinawa. After the war, he attended college at the University of Pittsburgh, where he went on to receive a Master’s in Sociology. A lover of music, Ed was concertmaster of Rankin High School orchestra and later enjoyed attending many symphony concerts with his wife. Ed will be remembered as a “prince of a man” by his family, former students and colleagues. Services were held at Ralph Schugar Chapel, Inc. Interment Sons of Israel Cemetery.
