Edith S. Adler

ADLER: Edith S. Adler, age 100, of Washington, formerly of Canonsburg, died Thursday, May 30, 2013, in the Donnell House, Washington. She was born December 2, 1912, a daughter of the late Bernath and Mollie Roth Schwartz. Edith was a 1930 graduate of Schenley High School, Pittsburgh, and attended Margaret Morrison College of Carnegie Tech. She was a member of Beth Israel Congregation, Washington, where she served on the Board of Sisterhood and was a member of Hadassah. She was also a 78-year member of Rodef Shalom Congregation in Pittsburgh. Edith and Bertram Adler opened a thriving clothing business, The Adler Company, in 1941 in Canonsburg. The store was closed in 1967. Edith also volunteered at Canonsburg Hospital for 52 years, and volunteered for the Washington Hospital Foundation. On June 2, 1935, she married Bertram Adler, who died April 9, 2001. Surviving are two sons, Dr. Jon S. (Carol) Adler of McMurray, and Alan R. (Irene) Adler of Akron, OH; three grandchildren, Margie (David) Cohen of Twinsburg, OH, Dave (Niki) Adler of Mt. Lebanon, and Alyse Adler of Columbus, OH, and four great-grandchildren, Lauren and Rachel Cohen, and Bobby and Tim Adler. Friends were received Sunday, June 2, 2013 from noon until 1:00 PM, the hour of services, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, with Rabbi David Novitsky officiating. Interment followed in West View Cemetery, Pittsburgh. Memorial contributions may be directed to Beth Israel Congregation, 265 North Avenue, Washington, PA 15301 or to the charity of choice.
