Edith (Bergstein) Hollander

HOLLANDER: Edith (Bergstein) Hollander of Pittsburgh, born Sept. 16, 1915, in a Hungarian-speaking region of Czechoslovakia, now part of Ukraine, the daughter of Morris and Jenny (Schwartz) Bergstein, whose family of eight children emigrated to the U.S. and relocated in Monessen. She was the last survivor of her immediate family. She and her late husband, Edward Hollander, who died in 1994, were married for nearly 60 years. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son Burton “Bud,” and her daughters-in-law, Barbara Stone Hollander and Gail Freedman Hollander. She is survived by her son, Thomas of Thornburg; six grandchildren, Scott (Teo) Hollander (Pittsburgh), Leslie Hollander (Great Falls, Va.), David (Courtney) Hollander (Santa Monica, Calif.), Julie (Dennis) Eichelbaum (Plano, Texas) Marla (Dana) Farbacher and Andi Malinger (both of Columbus, Ohio); 13 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was a devoted mother and a doting grandmother, affectionately known as GG. Interment in Beth Am Cemetery, Rostraver Township. Friends will also be received on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. in Thomas Hollander’s home, 1174 Harvard Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15205.
