Dr. Mel Cohen

Dr. Mel Cohen, 83, passed away on Sept. 4 after an extended illness. He was born in Pittsburgh (Millvale), where he was raised and eventually graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. His parents Joe Cohen and Sadie Cohen Sufrin and brother Stanford I (Jean) Cohen preceded him in death. He leaves behind his wife of 61 years, Malkah, his four children Ellen (Tom) Harper, Joe (Julia) Cohen, Jan Hancock and Tammie (Dewey) Cohen-Stark, his grandchildren, Danny, Chad, Hunter and Taylor, his sister Marcia (Mel) Solomon, 10 nieces and nephews and their families, and many dear and devoted friends, colleagues, patients and their families. A memorial fund has been established at the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation. Contributions can be sent to:
