Dr. Lee M. Hershenson

HERSHENSON: Dr. Lee M. Hershenson. Peacefully, at home on Thursday, November 19, 2015. Son of the late Dr. Morris and Essie Hershenson. Beloved husband of Susan Safier Hershenson. Loving father of Sarah Hershenson, Matthew J. (Mar) Hershenson, Thomas J. (Emily) Hershenson. Grandfather of Isaac, David, Miriam, Mirabelle and Vivienne. Born in Pittsburgh, Dr. Hershenson was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. After serving as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service at the National Institutes of Health, he returned to Pittsburgh and joined his father’s medical practice in gastroenterology. During his five-decade career, he taught at Pitt Medical School and served as president of Shadyside Hospital medical staff. He was a distinguished photographer whose work was widely exhibited, including at the Warhol Museum and a solo show at Scaife Gallery. A lifelong classical music lover, Dr. Hershenson was a longtime supporter of Chamber Music Pittsburgh. Services were held at Rodef Shalom Congregation.
