KLIONSKY: Dr. Esther Walder Klionsky, August 31, 1929 to July 17, 2016, at home. Graveside services were on July 18, 2016. Age 86, survived by husband of 66 years, Dr. Bernard Klionsky, children Nina (Leon Metlay), Matthew (Susan Rosenberg), Ruth Shapiro (Steven), Daniel (Janee Studnitzer), her brother Jules Walder (Cheryl), 11 of her 12 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and dear friends. Esther graduated from Boston Girls’ Latin School, Boston Hebrew Teachers’ College and Radcliffe. She has a doctorate from Carnegie Mellon University. She has taught English and biblical literature at Hillel Academy, University of Pittsburgh and at Chatham Univesity. She was active in League of Women Voters, NA’AMAT Pittsburgh, and Young People’s Synagogue and was an important support to many young people.
