Dorothy Caplan Weinberg
WEINBERG: Dorothy Caplan Weinberg, 90, of Alexandria, VA, formerly of Weirton, WV, died Friday, October 31, 2014, surrounded by her loving family. Born December 26, 1923 in Rochester, PA, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Cernie Caplan. Dorothy attended Ohio State University prior to graduating from Carnegie Mellon University. She was an avid bridge player, enjoyed reading, cooking and baking and was especially famous for her chocolate chip cookies. Her love and devotion to her family and friends was often celebrated with wonderful meals and endless laughter. She was the co-owner of the Smart Shop in Weirton with her husband Mel who passed away earlier this year. Dorothy and Mel were married for 67 years and had three daughters, Linda and her husband David Forms of Shelby, NC; Karen and her husband Erik Kanin of Portsmouth, NH; and Roberta “Bobbie” Weinberg with whom she resided in Alexandria, VA. She is also survived by her three granddaughters, Jessica, Amanda and Rachel, and five great-grandchildren as well as her brothers Bernard (Marilyn) Caplan, Mashel Caplan, and Reuben (Fernie) Caplan, brother-in-law Eugene Weinberg and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services were held Tuesday, November 4 at Agudath Achim Cemetery in Beaver Falls, PA, with Rabbi Stephanie Wolfe of Beth Samuel Jewish Center in Ambridge officiating.
