Doris Olender Straus

Straus: Doris Olender Straus age 88 of Pittsburgh died on Tuesday December  25, 2012.  She was born on November 23, 1924 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Kate Harris Olender. She is survived by her husband  Lawrence Straus, sons Kenneth Mendel Straus of Exeter, New Hampshire and Ira Louis Straus of Arlington, VA, sisters Racille (Eugene) Light of Pittsburgh and Edith (James) Sunstein of White Oak, brother Jack H. (Lovell) Olender of Washington, D.C., 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  Doris was a graduate of Carnegie Tech which is now CMU with a Bachelor of Arts Degree and she also furthered her education at the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School with a Teaching Degree.  She was a retired Art Teacher with the McKeesport and Pittsburgh Public Schools.  She was a member of several Jewish, Environmental, and World Federalists Organizations.  Services were held on Wednesday December 26, 2012 at the Jennifer S. Jordan Funeral Home, Inc., White Oak with Doris’ nephew Rabbi Meyer Goldwasser officiating.  Interment followed in Tree of Life Sfard Cemetery.  The family has suggested memorial contributions to  World Wild Life Fund 1250 N.W. 24th St. Washington, D.C. 20037.
