GOLD: October 5, 1935 to August 6, 2015, David R. Gold, 79, beloved husband, father and grandfather, was born in Jeannette, Pa. He graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania and journeyed to Europe where he hitchhiked across the continent in winter, which fostered a love of new cultures and was the beginning of a lifetime of travel for him and his wife. He later graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh Law School, where he was editor-in-chief of the Law Review. David practiced law in Greensburg, Pa., for 42 years and was the school solicitor for the Jeannette School District and the Westmoreland Intermediate Unit for over 30 years each. He was appointed by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court to the procedural advisory board. David was a life trustee of the Pittsburgh Chapter of American Jewish Committee. He was a member of the national executive committee and the national legal committee of AJC for decades. He was a Kiwanian and later a Rotarian. He was a lifetime golfer and had four high school varsity letters, was a life member of the International Golfing Fellowship of Rotarians, belonged to Clubs in Western Pennsylvania and Sarasota and had two holes-in-one. David was a retired captain in the U.S. Army Judge Advocate Corps and a member of the Military Officers Association of Sarasota. He was president of Temple Emanu-El in Greensburg, and was a director for decades and chairman of the board. He also was a trustee of Temple Sinai in Sarasota and a board member of their Men’s Club. In Sarasota he was a volunteer reading tutor at Infinity School and the Phoenix School and a Big Brother through Take Stock in Children. He was also a member of the Ivy League Club, the Penn Club and the former University Club. David was married in 1968 to his beloved, Nancy Aronson, of Pittsburgh. He retired in 2001 and he and his wife Nancy moved to Sarasota where they have enjoyed their life and partaking of all of the wonderful culture that the area has to offer. He is survived by his wife Nancy, his daughter Carolyn Aberman (Jonathan) of Chicago, their children Leah, Aidan, and Carly, his son Andrew (Amanda) of San Francisco and their son Joshua and his son Roger of San Francisco and his children Teddy and Catherine. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Aug. 9. Memorial donations may be made to Temple Sinai or Take Stock in Children.
