KENNEDY: Jan. 23, 1927 – Dec. 5, 2014; David Francis Kennedy, M.D., 87, of Squirrel Hill passed away peacefully with family by his side. He was born in Chicago. He was the beloved husband of Doris (Moses) Kennedy; loving father of Jane Mitchell (Tim), Alex Kennedy (Gladness), Kevin Kennedy-Spaien (Eve) and Rachael Daley; dear brother of Phyllis Burns and Stephanie Keen; adored grandfather of Ed Mitchell, Alison Meehan, Evan Kennedy-Spaien, Ryan, Jamilyn and Robyn Daley; great-grandfather of Claire and Annabelle Meehan; stepfather of George Arnold (Laura), Alan Arnold (Adele), Nancy Arnold, and Kate Kolbrener (Michael); stepgrandfather of six; and step-great-grandfather of four. He served in the Army during World War II and went on to receive degrees from the University of Pennsylvania and Jefferson College of Medicine. He was a respected instructor of group psychotherapy in Albany. He practiced and taught in Guam and multiple states before settling in Pittsburgh. After a successful career he retired from Woodville and Mayview Hospitals and Greene Family Mental Health. His contributions in the field of psychiatry helped thousands of people. David was an avid learner and polymath due to his extensive knowledge of the arts, music, literature, and languages. The funeral service was held Dec. 7, 2014, at Homewood Cemetery in Pittsburgh, followed by a condolence brunch at the home of Kate and Michael Kolbrener in Fox Chapel.
