Daniel Klein
KLEIN: Daniel Klein, 87 of Pittsburgh, PA passed away on July 21, 2014. Daniel was the son of Abraham and Pauline Klein. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Janet, his older brother, Judah, and two sons, Mark (and Cheryl) and Steven (and Rachel). He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Adina (and Max), Ari (and Dahlia), Jonah, Dustin, and Michael. Daniel served his country during WWII as a Radar Specialist in the Navy. He earned his PhD in Physics at the University of Rochester and was employed by Westinghouse Electric Corporation at Bettis Labs where he led nuclear physics research laying the foundation for commercial nuclear power. He was one of the great minds in nuclear fission and his enthusiasm for math and science made him a great teacher and mentor for his associates, family and friends. He gave of himself freely whether it was at Beth Israel Center synagogue as a founding member or working with the power companies to negotiate a utility contract for the Co-op community where he lived. He was an unassuming modern day Renaissance man, who was equally versed in science and baseball and could engage anyone on any topic and make them feel comfortable. His family and friends will always remember him as a man of high moral character in business and in life. He will live on through the impact he made on those whom he loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Graveside Services and interment were held at the Star of David section of the Homewood Cemetery.
