“The Jewish Woman’s Beauty: Skin to Soul Deep,” an evening of socializing and inspiration for women, will be held Tuesday, June 1, at 6 p.m. at Chabad of the South Hills, 1701 McFarland Road, Mount Lebanon. The program, the fourth annual spring event held by Chabad’s Jewish Women’s Circle, will include a wine and cheese reception, light dinner, workshops and a silent auction. Sharon Saul will speak on “Download My Soul: Staying connected in an age of superficial connections.” Sharon has been a licensed psychologist for more than 32 years and has addressed audiences in the United States and Canada on the subjects of marriage, gender differences, optimism, stress reduction, childrearing and the Jewish approach to marital intimacy. The Agency for Jewish Learning will again offer an Israeli-style Hebrew ulpan this summer at 2740 Beechwood Blvd., Squirrel Hill. The ulpan, an intensive period of Hebrew language education, will consist of 19 hours of Hebrew in one week of study for adults and families in small classes. Five class levels, from beginner to advanced, will be offered. The classes will be held June 2, 3, 7, 8 and 10, from 6 to 9 p.m., and Sunday, June 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Continuing summer Hebrew classes are available following the ulpan program. There is a charge for the classes, which also includes kosher refreshments and Israeli lunch on Sunday. Pittsburgh Area Jewish Committee will present its 2010 Community Impact Award to Arthur J. Rooney II, president of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Tuesday, June 8, 6:30 p.m. at the East Club Lounge, Heinz Field. The PAJC Community Impact Award is presented annually to individuals who have distinguished themselves in the areas of human rights and human relations. In addition to his work as Steelers president and on behalf of the National Football League, Rooney devotes substantial time to community activities, United Way of Allegheny County board chair, and sits on the boards of the Pittsburgh Children’s Museum, Pittsburgh Public Theater and the Extra Mile Education Foundation. The 2010 Caplan-Lieber Human Relations Scholarship Award will be awarded to Amelia Hackimer, a senior at Shaler Area High School.
