Dan Ben-David brings “Israel – A Study in Irony” to Pittsburgh on May 28 at 7 p.m. in the University of Pittsburgh’s Sennott Square Building, Room 2400, 210 S. Bouquet St. in Oakland. Ben-David is the executive director of the Taub Center for Social Policy Studies in Israel. Two affiliates of the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh — the Community Relations Council and the Jewish Lecture Fund — will present Ben-David’s address at no cost. Twenty-one unsung Jewish heroes will be honored by the Agency for Jewish Learning on June 1 at the JCC at 9 a.m. Award recipients include Linda R. Lewis, director of operations at Jewish Residential Services who will receive the AJL’s 2014 Special Needs Distinguished Service Award; David Harris-Gershon of the Community Day School who will receive the Grinspoon Award for Excellence in Jewish Education; and Judy Greenwald Cohen, who is the recipient of the Shore-Whitehill Award. The 2014 Annual Campaign Pacesetters Thank You event featuring comedian Wendy Liebman is set for May 29 at 7 p.m. at Rodef Shalom Congregation. The Busis family and Campaigner of the Year Elaine Krasik will be honored. Dr. Sidney Busis has been a member, leader and board member of numerous Jewish institutions in Pittsburgh and nationwide. Krasik is an avid and skilled fundraiser who undertakes more than a dozen annual campaign solicitations each year and has served the Jewish Federation in this capacity for more than two decades.

The Pursuer of Peace 2014 event will posthumously honor Fred Rogers — beloved minister, advocate and neighbor — on June 22. The event is at Rodef Shalom Congregation and includes a dinner at 6 p.m. followed by an award presentation and multimedia tribute to Mister Rogers.
