Bilha Witt
WITT, BILHA: Passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 1, 2012, one day short of her 99th birthday. She was born in Galvanai, Lithuania. She married her husband Nathan, a German refugee in Lithuania, in 1933, then emigrated with him to Palestine. They moved to the US in 1937, and settled in Pittsburgh. Bilha was a Hebrew teacher, and taught generations of Pittsburghers over the next 60 years. She was still teaching privately into her 90s. Bilha was a founding member of congregation Dor Hadash. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan, and her oldest son, Donald, formerly of Smithville, Texas. She is survived by her son, Dr. David Witt, of Mill Valley, California, his wife, Leslie Reiber; by Donald’s wife Paula and her grandchildren Max and Erika of Mill Valley, California and Benjamin, of Houston, Texas. A private ceremony was held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Jewish National Fund, 5915 Beacon Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15217.
