Beth El’s former preschool director honored

Georgia Hernandez, chair of the Allegheny County Children, Youth and Families Advisory Board since 2003, will be honored by County Council on Tuesday, Aug. 23 for her 43 years of service to the county’s children, The Georgia Hernandez Award for Excellence in Child Welfare Practice, which will be presented annually to an exemplary caseworker during National Child Abuse Prevention Month, will also be announced. Hernandez had a long career at the Beth El Congregation Nursery School, beginning in 1975 as a child care teaching assistant, becoming a pre-kindergarten teacher from 1976 to 1985 and director of the nursery school from 1985 to 2002.
