Arnold Blum
BLUM, Arnold; Of Monroeville, PA died on March 7, 2012 at the age of 89. A retired engineer and corporate manager he had worked for decades in the field of metallurgy and ceramics in this country and abroad. He held patents, and published in the field of corrosion-resistant and nuclear materials. A native of Germany he came to this country at the age of 17 after his release from Dachau concentration camp. He worked as a tool and diemaker for several years, and then served in the US Army as a combat engineer and as an interpreter in the G-2 Section of the 104th Infantry Division, during which time he was twice wounded. After his discharge he earned a degree in Physical Metallurgy from Columbia University and a Master’s degree from Stevens Institute of Technology in Industrial Management. Mr. Blum was a Life Member of the American Society for Metals and the Disabled American Veterans, and was past president of Temple David Congregation in Monroeville. He is survived by his wife Rita S. Blum of Monroeville, and two sons, Dr. David A. Blum of New Rochelle, NY and Ralph J. Blum of Charlotte, NC and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Services were held at Temple David. Interment was held in Nahariya, Israel.
