Anti-Semitic incidents soar in Holland

The number of anti-Semitic incidents in Holland in January was nearly equal to the number of attacks in all of 2008, a new report shows.

The annual report of the national organization charged with monitoring anti-Semitism in the country, the Center for Information and Documentation, reported 98 attacks in January. There were 108 attacks in all of 2008.

Anti-Semitic manifestations rose around the world in January during Israel’s military offensive in Gaza.

The anti-Semitism watchdog group criticized Holland’s justice system and police for being reluctant to process claims of anti-Semitism, and also called on the legal system not to decriminalize Holocaust denial.

The report also pointed to an increasing trend of anti-Semitic statements and incidents in schools.
