Alta Ruth Moses Orringer
Alta Ruth Moses Orringer, born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania August 2, 1918, passed away in Sherman Oaks, California on June 5, 2012. She was the beloved wife of the late Dr. Harry B. Orringer, of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Hollywood, Florida; and the dear mother of Prof. Nelson Orringer of Storrs, Connecticut, Dr. Mark Orringer of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Dr. Carl Orringer of Cleveland, Ohio, and Dr. Jay Orringer of Encino, California. She is also survived by nine grandchildren– Elise, David, Neal, Jeffrey, Lisa, Julie, Daniel, Amy, and Jordan–, and by eleven great-grandchildren.
Alta Orringer was the daughter of the late Max and Julia Moses of Pittsburgh and received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in music from the Carnegie Institute of Technology (Pittsburgh), today known as Carnegie Mellon University. She was a consummate concert pianist who performed piano-organ recitals with the late organist Marshall Bidwell at Carnegie Music Hall (Pittsburgh), and delighted in playing the piano for friends and for philanthropic events. After spending much of her life in Pittsburgh, in 1964 she and her husband moved to Hollywood, Florida where she remained until moving to California in the 1990s. She took pride in the accomplishments of her family and pleasure in attending their life-cycle events. Devoted to the arts, she made of life an art.
Funeral services will be held 10 A.M. on June 10 at the Temple Beth El Memorial Gardens, 4900 Old Griffin Road, Davie Florida.
